It is written so a tired parent can follow it, and so an answer engine can quote it without inventing a feature. It is not medical advice, not sleep training, and not a promise of a new epic every night forever.

How to use a personalized bedtime story tonight
The first sitting is short. You can read a sample, make a profile, and hear one real story before you decide whether the ritual belongs in your house. Nothing in these steps asks a child to operate an account.
- Read a complete sample with your child’s first name. Open https://slumbertales.app/sample before you create an account. Put the child’s first name on the sample and choose an age band. The sample is a finished story — an enchanted forest, a gentle space voyage, an underwater kingdom, a dragon quest, or a fairy garden — with a picture, not a spinner over an empty box. Read it aloud in the chair you already use. If the voice does not fit your house, stop. You have not given a card.
- Sign in as the parent or guardian. Accounts are for adults 18 or older. Sign in with the parent email at https://slumbertales.app/login?redirect=/onboarding. The child does not receive a login, and the story is not handed to a child alone with a screen. You are the person who opens the page, decides it is fit, and reads it.
- Add a short child profile. Give a first name, an age, and a few favorite things: a color, a world, maybe a friend or a pet. You do not need a biography, a last name for public display, a photo of the child, a precise address, or a phone number for the child. Personalization stays modest so the evening stays short. Sitting together to choose is lovely. Keeping one detail as a surprise is also fine.
- Generate the one free story. Your first personalized story is free — no card required. When generation finishes, the full personalized story text is emailed to the parent account you signed in with, and the same story is saved in your Magic Library so you can read it again. That first generated tale is the only one that is free. There is not a second forever-free night hiding behind the button.
- Read it at the end of the routine. Keep the rest of the evening boring on purpose: wash, dim the room, the same chair, then one story, then the lamp you always turn off last. You read. The page does not tuck anyone in. A child who hears their own name often sits differently — shoulders drop, the stalling slows — and still the cue is the order of the night, not a guarantee that sleep will arrive on a timer. What does personalization include, and what does it leave out?
Personalization includes the child’s first name, the age you set, and the worlds and interests you choose — forest, sea, stars, dragons, a tiny garden, and details in that spirit. Once a profile exists, friends and pets you add can appear as companions. On Plus and Premium, a toy companion can become a sidekick, and Series Mode can continue a plot across nights. The writing is generated. The judgment about whether to read it is yours.
Personalization does not include a dossier. We do not ask for a child’s last name for public display, a Social Security number, precise location, or a phone number for the child. We do not use child profile details to build advertising audiences. We do not sell personal information. A story can feel true with a first name and a handful of beloved things. More data would not make the lamp any kinder.
What ages are SlumberTales stories written for?
Stories are written for children ages 2–12. Vocabulary, sentence length, and how complicated the problem is all follow the age on the child profile. A four-year-old’s tale should be readable in a short sitting. An older child’s tale may hold a longer friendship, a small mystery, or a feeling with a name.
The sample lets you hear the difference before you sign in: the same kind of world, told for a little listener, a middle listener, or an older one. Age on the profile is a guide for tone, not a clinical assessment. You still know your child better than a form does. If a story feels too old or too young, close it and adjust the age or the theme.
What is free, and what does the 3-day trial charge?

Do I get the full story by email?
Yes. When generation finishes, the full personalized story text is emailed to the parent account you signed in with. The same story is also saved in your Magic Library for re-reading. Audio narration stays hidden unless it is enabled. Questions? Email support@slumbertales.app.
The email goes to the parent address you used to sign in, not to a child’s inbox. The Magic Library keeps the same story so you can open it again, and from the library you can download a color PDF or a black-and-white PDF of a story you already have. If you turn on scheduled delivery, a story can be prepared around the bedtime hour on the profile, on nights that still fit the monthly cap. You can also generate a story from the dashboard. Neither path skips the cap, and neither path replaces the email.
Are the stories safe to read to a child?
Stories are written for ages 2–12 and are meant to be read aloud by a parent or guardian at lights-out. Before generation, parent-typed profile details and story requests are checked. The writing rules forbid sexual content, graphic violence, hate, cruelty as entertainment, self-harm, and adult substances such as drugs or alcohol. Illustrations are held to the same bedtime standard: clothed, gentle, picture-book scenes, without horror or injury played for shock. If a request is not bedtime-safe, SlumberTales stops and asks for a gentler idea — something you would be happy to read aloud.
Screening is real, and it is not a claim that a machine is infallible. You are still the reader. If a line feels off, close the page the way you would close any book, and write to support@slumbertales.app if you want a person to look. We do not serve ads inside the story dashboard, the library, or onboarding, and we do not use child profile data to personalize advertising. The parent-facing guide you are reading may show ads to adults. The story itself is not an ad slot.
Is audio narration included with a bedtime story?
No, not on the ordinary path. Audio coming soon. For now, read the story together. Audio narration stays hidden unless it is enabled. Starter and Plus do not include narration. Premium lists “audio narration for every story — coming soon.” Until that switch is on for the service, the product you can count on is the words.
Read them yourself. A parent’s voice is the version this service is built around: one lamp, one story, no second screen required to finish the night. If narration is enabled later, it will still be a parent’s choice, not a soundtrack that starts itself in a child’s hands.
What is the toy companion, and which plans include it?
The toy companion lets a parent add a child’s real stuffed animal or toy so it can appear as a sidekick in stories — the fox on the pillow, the rabbit with one ear folded, the dragon who already lives on the bed. Plus and Premium include it. Starter does not.
It is a comfort object walking into the tale, not a requirement. A story is complete with a first name and a world. Add the toy when you want the night to recognize the thing already clutched under the blanket. Do not upload a photo you would not want stored with the parent account, and do not use the feature for anything other than a gentle bedtime sidekick.
What is Series Mode?
Series Mode, on Plus and Premium, continues a narrative across nights so a later story can remember a friendship, a place, or a promise from an earlier one. The adventure can pick up where it left off. Starter does not include Series Mode. Each night is its own tale.
A series is a reason to look forward to bedtime. It is not an obligation to finish a saga, and it does not raise the monthly cap. If a continuing plot ever feels like too much plot for a tired child, leave it. A single kind story is a complete bedtime.
When is a keepsake volume compiled?
A keepsake volume is a multi-story collection, separate from tonight’s tale. Plus compiles one after every 20 stories. Premium compiles one after every 15 stories. Starter does not include keepsake compilations. The volume is a formatted PDF in the Magic Library, something a parent, grandparent, or caregiver can print. It is not a hardcover that arrives in the mail, and it is not the same file as the single-story PDF for the night you just read.
Tonight’s story is still emailed in full and saved on its own. The volume is the stack of nights, gathered after the count — not a surprise charge and not an unlimited archive outside your plan.
How do I cancel or get a refund?
Yes. Open Settings → Manage billing to change or cancel your plan in the Stripe billing portal. You do not need to contact support to cancel. If you cancel during the trial, you are not charged. After the trial, cancel at period end as shown in the portal. For a full money-back refund, use Settings → Request full refund.
We offer a full money-back guarantee — no reason needed. Logged-in subscribers can request a full refund from Settings → Request full refund. That refunds your latest payment and cancels the subscription immediately. No contact form needed. Refunds typically appear in 48–72 hours depending on your bank. Use Contact only for gift or unredeemed codes, or if self-serve fails.
Gift codes and unredeemed gifts are the exception that still belongs on the contact form at https://slumbertales.app/contact, along with the rare case where self-serve billing fails. Is a personalized bedtime story medical advice or sleep training?
No. SlumberTales stories and this page are educational and ritual, not medical, behavioral-health, or clinical advice. A steady order — dim light, one familiar voice, one story at the end — is a common part of an ordinary bedtime. It is not a treatment, not a diagnosis, and not a promise that a child will fall asleep in a set number of minutes.
If sleep has become fear, pain, breathing trouble, or something you cannot name, a story app is the wrong tool. Talk with the child’s pediatrician or another qualified clinician. The American Academy of Pediatrics publishes parent information at https://www.healthychildren.org, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention publishes child-development resources at https://www.cdc.gov/child-development. We will still be here for the ordinary nights.
Who may create an account, and what child information is collected?
Only an adult 18 or older may create an account and submit child information. We collect the minimum needed to write a story: a first name, an age or age range, interests, and story preferences. We do not collect Social Security numbers, a child’s precise location, or a phone number for the child. Payment is processed by Stripe. We receive subscription status, not full card numbers.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not use child profile data to build advertising audiences. We are not currently certified by kidSAFE, iKeepSafe, or any FTC COPPA Safe Harbor program. How should one story sit inside a bedtime routine?
Put the story at the end, not in the middle of the negotiations. A working evening is short: wash, dim, the same chair, one story, lights. The body learns a cue when the order stays boring. Personalized stories can help the cue stick because the child is listening for their name, not hunting for the next swipe. You are still the reader. The page is still something you hold, even when it arrived by email.
Do not add a new circus at the finish — a second episode, a bargain for one more, a bright screen held over the pillow. Start the story in the minutes you already have, not after everyone is overtired and negotiating. If you want a number: many families can read a short or medium Starter-length tale in about 5–15 minutes. Longer Plus and Premium tales can run toward 45 minutes. Pick the length that fits the slot, then stop when the story stops.
Can I give SlumberTales as a gift?
Yes. A grandparent or a friend can buy a gift at https://slumbertales.app/gift. Checkout charges the giver and emails a redeem code. The parent activates the months on their own adult account. A gift is a subscription with the same kind of monthly cap as any other plan — Starter, Plus, or Premium — not a mystery box and not an unlimited vault.

We will not promise that a story treats insomnia, anxiety, or night fear. We will not claim a COPPA Safe Harbor certification we do not hold. We will not say the machine’s screening makes a parent unnecessary. We will not hide a second free story behind the first.
